Learning Resource Centre

The LRC aims to support teaching, encourage independent learning and research, and assist in the development of life long learning skills. The area offers all staff and students a quiet place to study, work or read in a calm and welcoming environment.

Students in Year 7 have one Library lesson each week and a wide variety of quality young people’s fiction is presented to help students develop their reading habit and to encourage an enjoyment of books and reading for pleasure.

Students are also offered a broad range of non-fiction books to help with both leisure interests and homework. Four computers with internet access are available and photocopying can be requested for a nominal charge.

The classroom area for up to twenty-eight students can be booked for individual subject lessons or students’ research and projects. Post 16 students appreciate the opportunity to use the LRC as an alternative place to study. The four Reading Hideaways, or “pods”, are popular with the younger students and several comfortably furnished areas around the LRC provide seating for smaller, informal groups of students or staff.

Learning and Teaching Resource Area

The LRC houses a new collection for staff including journals, newsletters, CDs and books, as well as professional papers and publications. As the collection is frequently updated, the latest catalogue can be accessed from the School’s MLE.

Connexions Resource Centre

The Connexions Resource Centre presents a selection of information on careers and employment as well as guides and advice on CVs and job hunting. Prospectuses for local Sixth Forms, Further Education and Vocational colleges are also available.
