Dining

Parents’ co-operation is sought in seeing that their children take lunch in one of the following ways:

  1. Purchasing a lunch from the school canteen. The students are encouraged to eat sensibly and a set meal may currently be purchased for £1.80 (main course and dessert). Chilled water is available from the dispenser in the canteen.
  2. Bringing a packed lunch to be eaten in the school canteen.

Our Canteen offers a wide range of food and drinks. Students can purchase food/drinks from the canteen before school, during break and at lunchtime. Students in Years 7, 8, 9 and 10 are not allowed to leave the premises at lunchtime. Students in Year 11, who hold a lunchtime pass and all students in Years 12 and 13, will be allowed to leave the school site at lunchtimes.

All of the menus are analysed to ensure they meet the Nutritional Government guidelines. The team uses quality ingredients and healthy cooking methods such as grilling and baking where possible. The catering contractor is Catering Academy, the school hold regular meetings with the contractor to monitor the quality of food and level of service given to the students and staff.

We have a cashless catering system in the school canteen, similar to that which exists in many other local secondary schools. By removing the collection of cash, we are able to provide a much quicker service to the students as well as being able to provide parents with information on the eating habits of their child. As part of this system we use biometric registration as a means of identifying the students.

There are two ways to credit your child’s catering account. We are able to accept payments by cheque or online. Using a secure website called ParentPay® you can credit your child’s account online using your credit or debit card.

Alternatively a cheque can be brought into school and deposited in the box located in the Pupil Services Reception in the main building. You should ensure that your child’s name and tutor group are clearly written on the reverse of the cheque. Cheques should be made payable to SPHS-Parentpay. Please allow sufficient time to enable your cheque to be credited to your child’s catering account. Please note there is a minimum payment of £10.00 for both online and cheque payments.

For students who are entitled to free school meals their daily entitlement of £1.80 will be credited to their catering account at lunchtime. Any money not spent at lunchtime will not be transferred to the following day. Students can add extra money by any of the above methods.
