School Sports Co-ordinator
The role of the SSCO is to co-ordinate school sport across the family of secondary, primary and special schools and to work towards the participation of all young people in the family’s Physical Education and sport programme. Stanley Park High School is the cluster secondary school for the family of schools which includes Holy Trinity Primary, Carew Manor, Stanley Park Infant School and Stanley Park Juniors. The SSCO works with the PE Dept at SPHS to develop and implement a PE and school sport strategy as part of their school development plan.
The SSCO also works with the Primary Link Teacher to ensure curriculum and Out School Hours Learning (OSHL) opportunities are offered and developed. We are committed to raising standards of PE and School Sport across the cluster and we work towards implementing and delivering a programme of festivals and competitions. Since the SSCO programme was introduced at SPHS, we have run workshops/tournaments in basketball, football, Multi Skills, indoor and outdoor athletics, kwik cricket, netball, martial arts and dance.
We are also extending our Leadership Programme at SPHS to include students from Yrs 9–13 as Young Sports Leaders. Many of the students are signed on to the national Step Into Sport Programme and are currently engaged in active volunteering and leadership both in school and in the community. As a cluster, we are currently working towards enhancing and supporting the programme of intra-school competition thus raising numbers participating and whole school standards of PE and School Sport for all pupils.
